One of my greatest joys in life is sharing my art with someone special for no other reason than to just make them smile. I have found that a handpainted card, sent snail mail, does a spectacular job at brightening someone's otherwise ordinary day.
I try to keep a stack of precut watercolor papers next to whatever project(s) I am currently immersed in. I find that by doing so, I am more inclined to drag some leftover pigment from my brush across the surface of the papers- sometimes I even smear a bit of modeling paste on a paper or two for a landscape.
It doesn't take long before these ordinary scraps of paper begin to take form as a landscape or abstract explosion of color. It's quite fantastic actually- bits and pieces of beautiful, soulful artistic expression created during the "in-between" time.
Once they are completed, often with the addition of markers or colored pencils, they are mounted on card blanks, signed, and placed in a basket at the ready for sending.
Keeping a stack of almost, but not quite finished, pieces in my travel kit ensures that my supply of "just because" cards is plentiful and diverse. Try it sometime. If you're anything like me, you'll find inspiration strikes whenever it wants, so it's best to be ready for it.
Keep your brush wet and get messy.
Faith, love, and art,
Debbie

I LOVE THIS IDEA! Thanks Deb.
What a wonderful post. I have learned from you the value of small, hand-made works of art. You are such a gift to all of us who have learned from you.
